Prior to the opening of the Winter Olympics, its smart restaurant has been making headlines and gaining much attention. The smart restaurant covers an area of about 3,680 square meters, and serves up food of various cuisines from around the world. It deploys different robots that can cook, serve wine and beverages, as well as deliver food to the diners, automating most of the processes at the restaurant and in turn minimising human contact and aid in the prevention and control of the ongoing epidemic.

The robots are developed by Associate Professor Yan Weixin of the Institute of Robotics at SJTU. Dedicated to the research of catering robots for the past 15 years, Prof. Yan is confident that these robots will have a broader application, and can be a useful tool in promoting Chinese cuisine.
