Shanghai Jiao Tong University Expands Global Reach with Strategic Agreements and Unveils Alumni House in Singapore

Singapore, 23 April 2024 – Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) marked a significant expansion of its global initiatives with the signing of multiple strategic agreements and the inauguration of an Alumni House in Singapore. The ceremony, held at the Antai Asia-Pacific Center of SJTU Asia-Pacific Graduate Institute, reflects the university's ongoing commitment to enhancing its educational and cultural influence worldwide.



The event was attended by an array of distinguished guests across diplomatic and corporate sectors, underlining the multifaceted nature of the new partnerships. Among the attendees were Zhou Yuyun, Minister Counsellor for Political Information at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Singapore, and Pan Chenwei from the embassy's Education Section. The corporate sector saw significant representation with Giovanni Spadaro, Global Market President of Rolls-Royce Solutions Asia Pte. Ltd., Lin Xiangyang, General Manager of China Life Insurance (Singapore) Pte. Ltd, Kuah Boon Wee, Core Director of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Chairman of Singapore Chinese Chamber Institute of Business.


From the academic perspective, SJTU's delegation was robust led by President Ding Kuiling, a noted academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was joined by senior officials including Wang Houji, Peng Yinghong, Wang Yushen, and Xie Zhitao. Other key academic leaders in attendance included Xu Min, Yu Yang, Yin Haitao, Zhu Yifan and Xi Junfang. Jiang Wening, Party Secretary of the Antai College of Economics and Management, chaired the event, ensuring seamless proceedings.


The inauguration of the Alumni House in Singapore, unveiled by SJTU President Ding Kuiling and President of the SJTU Alumni Association in Singapore Liu Daoxian, highlighted the event, establishing a new hub for fostering a dynamic alumni network and enhancing collaborative efforts.



Minister Counsellor Zhou Yuyun praised SJTU's 31-year educational legacy in Singapore and its pivotal role in the Asia-Pacific's socioeconomic development. He encouraged the university to continue its innovative leadership in fostering educational and cultural ties between China and Singapore.



Giovanni Spadaro expressed his appreciation for the longstanding partnership with SJTU and conveyed his optimism for future collaborations that aim to enhance student training and research. He highlighted the strategic importance of the Asian, particularly the Chinese, market in driving technological innovation.



President Ding celebrated the event as not only a milestone for SJTU’s 128th anniversary but also as a critical advancement in Sino-Singaporean relations. He detailed the expected impacts of the agreements with Rolls-Royce Solutions Asia, China Life Insurance (Singapore) and Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, which promise to significantly bolster education, research, talent training, business and cultural exchanges.



The ceremony featured the signing of several pivotal agreements, including a student internship program with Rolls-Royce Solutions Asia, designed to provide substantial professional experience and career development opportunities for students. Additionally, cooperative agreements were signed between SJTU Asia-Pacific Graduate Institute and China Life Insurance (Singapore), as well as between SJTU’s Antai College of Economics and Management and the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, which will jointly promote development and cooperation in related fields.
