The Joint Seminar on Maritime AI on 1 August 2024

The Seminar on Maritime AI was jointly hosted by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Asia-Pacific Graduate Institute (SJTU-APGI) and the Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC) of A*STAR on August 1, 2024. The event began with an opening speech by Prof. Peng Yinghong, Dean of SJTU-APGI, followed by a welcome address from Dr. Qin Zheng, Director of the Systems Science Department at IHPC.

Dr. Fu Xiuju, Maritime AI Research Programme Director at IHPC, introduced the ongoing Maritime AI Research Programme, detailing its objectives and current projects. Prof. Jin Jiangang, Assistant Dean of the School of Ocean & Civil Engineering at SJTU, discussed his team's research on “Improving Vessel Fleet Energy Efficiency: Fuel Consumption Prediction and Fleet Deployment Optimization,” showcasing advancements in reducing fuel consumption and optimizing fleet operations. Presentations by Dr. Wang Ke and Dr. Kelvin Lee focused on “Maritime Big Data Analytics and AI Modelling for Maritime Safety Management” and “Maritime AI for Just-in-Time Operations (AI4JIT),” respectively, highlighting the role of AI in enhancing maritime safety and efficiency. Prof. Yin Jingbo from SJTU demonstrated various applications developed by his team to share maritime knowledge, real-time operational data, and tools to monitor and optimize maritime operations and safety.



The seminar attracted over 60 attendees from universities, government agencies, and industrial companies, fostering a collaborative environment for discussing advancements in maritime AI and its practical applications.
