From March 26 to 28, 2026, the
conference titled “AI and Social Science Research: New Paradigms in Governance
and New Impetus for Disciplines” was successfully held in Singapore. The
conference was jointly organized by the Shanghai Federation of Social Science
Associations (SFSSA), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), and the National
University of Singapore (NUS), bringing together leading scholars and experts
from China and Singapore to discuss the evolving role of artificial
intelligence in social science research.
The opening ceremony featured welcoming remarks by Ren Xiaowen, Executive President of SFSSA; Gu Feng, Vice Executive Director of the University Council, SJTU; and Peng Yinghong, Dean of SJTU Asia-Pacific Graduate Institute (SJTU-APGI). The session was moderated by Wu Wenfeng, Director of Division for Development Liberal Arts, SJTU. Across the conference, speakers including Leonard Lee, Fang Ning, Mark Chen, Jin Yaohui, Lin Yun, Daniel Seng, Lei Yu, Liu Zhao, Yang Lin, Ji Chengyuan, and Zhu Ying shared insights on AI adoption, academic evaluation, ethics, innovation, and scholarly publishing.






The conference also featured two closed-door meetings on March 27, focusing on “Restructuring the Evaluation System for Social Sciences in the AI Era” and “Building International Interdisciplinary Innovation Platforms,” which facilitated in-depth discussions among invited experts. In addition, participants visited the SJTU-APGI laboratory.


On March 28, participants visited the
Antai Asia-Pacific Center, gaining further insights into regional academic collaboration
and institutional development.

The conference provided a valuable
platform for advancing interdisciplinary dialogue and international
collaboration, highlighting the growing role of AI in reshaping social science
research.
The event was also attended by Vice Dean of SJTU-APGI Xu Min and Xi Junfang, CNSB-CREATE SJTU team member Jin Xin as well as staffs and students from SJTU and NUS.
