The Workshop on Transforming Green Megacities via AI for Engineering Sciences was held on September 20, 2024, and co-organized by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Asia-Pacific Graduate Institute (SJTU-APGI) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
The event commenced with an opening speech by Professor Peng Yinghong, Dean of SJTU-APGI, followed by the emcee for the workshop, Professor Tan Rui, Assistant Dean at NTU’s College of Computing and Data Science. Prof. Tan introduced the workshop agenda, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the event.
One of the key presentations was delivered by Professor Yang Xiaokang, Vice Dean and Professor at SJTU’s Artificial Intelligence Institute, who discussed his team’s research on the "AI Enabled Scientific Facility: Concept and Practice". The workshop featured multiple research presentations by scholars from both Singapore and Shanghai, discussing past research and envisioning future advancements in optimizing megacities as complex systems. Topics ranged from vehicle battery systems and infrastructure to human behavior and clean energy policies, highlighting the interdisciplinary approach needed to enhance the sustainability of megacities.
With over 50 attendees from academic institutions, government agencies, and industrial sectors, the workshop fostered a collaborative platform. The discussion focused on the role of AI, particularly generative AI, in accelerating green transformation and sustainable development within large urban environments.
