In 1993, Shanghai Jiao Tong University was approved to establish a Master of Business Administration programme in Singapore, becoming the first Chinese higher education institution to offer postgraduate degree education outside of China since the economic reform and opening-up policies.

In 2002, approved by China's Ministry of Education, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Graduate School at Singapore was established, becoming the first and only overseas graduate school branch of a Chinese university, signifying China's high-level degree and postgraduate education's expansion internationally.

SJTU ACEM initiated the of ASEAN Chinese Business Leaders' CEO Executive Education Programme (CEO class) in Singapore in 2014, targeting senior management in rapidly growing ASEAN companies, building on their MBA programme.

In 2016, Shanghai Jiao Tong University rebranded the programme as the "ASEAN MBA," expanding its recruitment efforts to include the entire ASEAN region.

To align with China's higher education internationalization strategy for the new era and to meet the management requirements of the Singaporean government, SJTU Asia-Pacific Graduate Institute Ltd was registered as the non-profit organization. And the Antai Asia-Pacific Center, was officially established.
