Harmful algal blooms and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) are environmental and public health challenges that the world faces in the coming decades. In 2018, a collaborative programme between Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS) was initiated under E2S2-CREATE to address environmental and public health themes within the urban landscapes of Singapore and Shanghai.
Organised by E2S2-CREATE, this one day workshop will showcase advances and outcomes from the program's cyanobacterial and antimicrobial resistance research.This covers topics such as the discovery of novel toxin and off-flavor producing cyanobacteria, algal-bacterial dynamics, the role of cyanophages, and algal bloom predictions. Themes presented for AMR will include surveillance of antibiotic resistant bacteria and genes in wastewater and environmental waters, occurrence and dissemination of AMR on microplastics, and AMR risk assessments and models.
